    Cook Like A Chef

In 1996 I decided I really wanted to learn how to cook like a chef. So it was off to the Culinary School, the home chefs version, in Pasadena (now a Le Cordon Bleu School). It was about 6 months of weekend classes but at the end my food tasted pretty darn good. Over the years I've taken it up many levels as a high-tech cooking gadget enthusiast and frequent pracitioner of molecular gastronomy. One cooking technique that changed my cooking life 10 years ago is the Sous Vide method. Cooking food under a vacuum in a perfectly computer controlled waterbath. Although I've never been a restaurant chef, I was an investor in a restaurant years ago, cooking is still a big part of my life today.

The image is one of my food photographs that appeared in Food & Wine magazine.

Electric Cars & The MINI E

I've been a fan of electric cars from the first day that a friend let me drive his EV1. They are extremely fast, fun to drive, and help out the planet at the same time. The problem is that after all of the EV1's were crushed, no manufactuer would step up to the plate to build one. Well, luckily in the last 5 years a flood of electric cars have hit the roads.

In 2009 I noticed online that BMW/MINI Cooper was making a test fleet of fully electric MINI E's. A dream come true. Only problem is that there were only 500 of them and only 200 in SoCal and you had to qualify for a zillion things to get one. I applied anyway and was happy when I was selected for the test program.

Simply an amazing year of driving electric.

Here is one of my first drives in this rocket fast electric Mini Cooper! I really do miss this car!

VOLT - GM CUSTOMER ADVISORY BOARD

It was a sad day when the MINI E had to be returned, the down side of a test program. But it was only a few months later when General Motors called me to see if I would like to beta test the new Chevrolet Volt before its public release. They flew me out to Detroit to meet the car's designers and engineers and test drive the unleashed Volt on the GM test track. Amazing experience.

I was one of sixteen people from across the US to be picked for the program. I'm in the back right of the picture.
